Ingredients

  • 12 large sea scallops
  • 6 slices bacon, cut in half
  • 2 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp butter, melted
  • 0.25 tsp black pepper
  • 0.25 tsp paprika
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 12 toothpicks (for securing)

Equipment

  • baking sheet
  • wire rack
  • skillet
  • mixing bowl
  • brush
  • Tongs
  • paper towels

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and place a wire rack on top.
  2. In a skillet, cook bacon slices for about 3–4 minutes until partially cooked but not crispy. Drain on paper towels.
  3. Pat scallops dry with paper towels and season with black pepper and paprika.
  4. Wrap each scallop with half a slice of bacon and secure with a toothpick.
  5. In a small bowl, whisk maple syrup, soy sauce, and melted butter to make the glaze.
  6. Arrange scallops on the wire rack and brush with half of the glaze.
  7. Bake for 15–18 minutes, flipping halfway through, and brush with remaining glaze near the end of baking.
  8. Remove from oven, rest briefly, and serve warm. Optionally garnish with parsley or lemon wedges.

Notes

Use thick-cut bacon partially cooked before wrapping for even crisping. Serve with lemon wedges or over a bed of greens. For a spicy twist, add a pinch of cayenne to the glaze.
