Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb fresh strawberries, hulled and sliced
  • 1 lb fresh blueberries
  • 2 Pink Lady or Fuji apples
  • 1 tsp granulated sugar (optional)
  • 1 tbsp fresh lemon juice (optional, for apples)

Method
 

  1. Rinse the strawberries, blueberries, and apples thoroughly under cold water and pat dry.
  2. Hull the strawberries and slice them into even pieces about 1/4 inch thick.
  3. Slice the apples lengthwise into flat slices approximately 1/4 inch thick, avoiding the core.
  4. Use a small star-shaped cookie cutter to cut star shapes from the apple slices.
  5. If preparing ahead, toss the apple stars with lemon juice to help prevent browning.
  6. Add the sliced strawberries to a large serving bowl and spread them evenly across the bottom.
  7. Pour the blueberries over the strawberries and distribute them evenly.
  8. If desired, sprinkle the sugar lightly over the fruit and gently toss to combine.
  9. Arrange the apple stars decoratively across the top of the fruit salad.
  10. Chill until ready to serve. Serve plain or with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream if desired.

Notes

Toss apple stars with a little lemon juice if preparing ahead to prevent browning. Use ripe, in-season fruit for the best flavor and skip the sugar if the fruit is naturally sweet. Assemble within a few hours of serving to keep the fruit fresh and vibrant.
