Method
- Rinse the strawberries, blueberries, and apples thoroughly under cold water and pat dry.
- Hull the strawberries and slice them into even pieces about 1/4 inch thick.
- Slice the apples lengthwise into flat slices approximately 1/4 inch thick, avoiding the core.
- Use a small star-shaped cookie cutter to cut star shapes from the apple slices.
- If preparing ahead, toss the apple stars with lemon juice to help prevent browning.
- Add the sliced strawberries to a large serving bowl and spread them evenly across the bottom.
- Pour the blueberries over the strawberries and distribute them evenly.
- If desired, sprinkle the sugar lightly over the fruit and gently toss to combine.
- Arrange the apple stars decoratively across the top of the fruit salad.
- Chill until ready to serve. Serve plain or with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream if desired.
Notes
Toss apple stars with a little lemon juice if preparing ahead to prevent browning. Use ripe, in-season fruit for the best flavor and skip the sugar if the fruit is naturally sweet. Assemble within a few hours of serving to keep the fruit fresh and vibrant.
