Ingredients

  • 8 slices bread (preferably brioche or white sandwich bread)
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • ½ tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup sliced strawberries
  • 2 eggs
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 2 tbsp butter, for frying
  • powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)
  • whipped cream, for serving (optional)

Equipment

  • mixing bowl
  • skillet or frying pan
  • spatula
  • shallow bowl for egg dip
  • knife

Method

  1. In a small bowl, mix cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  2. Spread cream cheese mixture on 4 slices of bread. Top with sliced strawberries and remaining bread slices to form sandwiches.
  3. In a shallow bowl, whisk together eggs and milk to create a custard-style dip.
  4. Dip each sandwich into the egg mixture, coating both sides.
  5. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Fry sandwiches for 2–3 minutes per side, until golden brown and crisp.
  6. Remove from skillet, dust with powdered sugar, and serve warm with whipped cream if desired.

Notes

Best served fresh and warm. You can substitute strawberries with other berries or jam. Use thick bread like brioche for best texture. Dust with powdered sugar and top with whipped cream for extra indulgence.
