Ingredients

  • 6 large eggs
  • 3 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp black pepper
  • few drops red or black food coloring (for eerie effect)
  • 6 black olive halves (optional for decoration)
  • 1 tsp paprika (for garnish)

Equipment

  • saucepan
  • mixing bowl
  • knife
  • spoon or piping bag
  • measuring spoons

Method

  1. Place eggs in a saucepan, cover with water, and bring to a boil. Cook 10 minutes, then cool in ice water. Peel and slice in half lengthwise.
  2. Remove yolks and mash them in a bowl with mayonnaise, mustard, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  3. Stir in food coloring to achieve an eerie hue for Halloween.
  4. Spoon or pipe the filling back into egg whites. Garnish with paprika and optional olive 'spiders'.

Notes

These can be prepared a few hours ahead and refrigerated until serving. For extra creepiness, use black olives for 'spider' toppings or food coloring gels for veins.
