Equipment

  • saucepan
  • mixing bowl
  • knife
  • spoon or piping bag
  • measuring spoons

Ingredients

  • 6 large eggs
  • 3 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/8 tsp black pepper
  • few drops red or black food coloring (for eerie effect)
  • 6 black olive halves (optional for decoration)
  • 1 tsp paprika (for garnish)

Instructions

  • Place eggs in a saucepan, cover with water, and bring to a boil. Cook 10 minutes, then cool in ice water. Peel and slice in half lengthwise.
  • Remove yolks and mash them in a bowl with mayonnaise, mustard, salt, and pepper until smooth.
  • Stir in food coloring to achieve an eerie hue for Halloween.
  • Spoon or pipe the filling back into egg whites. Garnish with paprika and optional olive 'spiders'.

Notes

These can be prepared a few hours ahead and refrigerated until serving. For extra creepiness, use black olives for 'spider' toppings or food coloring gels for veins.
