Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 recommended)
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups green beans (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup (10.5 oz)
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1 cup crispy fried onions

Equipment

  • oven-safe skillet
  • wooden spoon
  • measuring spoons

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Heat a large oven-safe skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook for 5–6 minutes, breaking it up, until browned.
  3. Add diced onion and cook for 3–4 minutes until softened and translucent.
  4. Stir in garlic and cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Drain excess grease from the skillet.
  6. Add green beans to the skillet and stir to combine.
  7. Stir in cream of mushroom soup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and paprika until evenly coated.
  8. Smooth the mixture evenly in the skillet and sprinkle fried onions over the top.
  9. Bake uncovered for 20–25 minutes until bubbly and onions are golden brown.
  10. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Use 80/20 ground beef for best flavor. Frozen green beans work especially well and don’t need to be thawed. For deeper flavor, deglaze the pan with beef broth after browning the meat.
