Equipment

  • mixing bowls
  • electric mixer
  • Rolling Pin
  • round cookie cutter
  • baking sheets

Ingredients

  • 2.75 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • orange frosting (buttercream or royal icing)
  • black frosting or edible marker

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy, about 3 minutes.
  • Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully combined.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture until a smooth dough forms.
  • Roll dough to ¼-inch thickness on a lightly floured surface.
  • Cut dough into circles using a round cookie cutter.
  • Bake for 10–12 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
  • Cool cookies completely on wire racks.
  • Decorate with orange frosting and add basketball lines using black frosting or an edible marker.

Notes

Chill dough if too soft to prevent spreading. Let cookies cool completely before decorating. Royal icing gives the cleanest lines, while buttercream adds richer flavor.
