Southern Maple Sweet Potato Casserole

Ingredients
  

  • 3 lbs sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 0.25 cup pure maple syrup
  • 0.25 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 0.25 cup brown sugar
  • 0.5 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.25 cup chopped pecans (optional topping)

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish.
  2. Boil sweet potatoes in a large pot until just tender, about 10–12 minutes. Drain well.
  3. In a mixing bowl, mash the sweet potatoes until mostly smooth.
  4. Stir in the maple syrup, melted butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla, and salt until combined.
  5. Spread mixture evenly into the greased baking dish. Sprinkle with pecans if using.
  6. Bake uncovered for 25–30 minutes until hot and lightly golden on top.

Notes

For extra flavor, add a sprinkle of cinnamon or nutmeg before baking. You can also top with pecans or mini marshmallows for a festive holiday touch. This dish can be made ahead and reheated before serving.
