Ingredients

  • 10 cups apple chunks peeled and cored (use Fuji, Granny Smith, or a mix)
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/4–1/3 cup sugar optional, adjust to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon each cinnamon, clove, and/or allspice optional for spiced apple sauce

Equipment

  • Crockpot / Slow Cooker
  • peeler and corer
  • knife
  • mixing spoon
  • immersion blender optional, for smooth texture

Method

  1. Peel, core, and dice the apples into large chunks.
  2. Place the apples into the insert of your slow cooker. Add the water and lemon juice.
  3. Cook on HIGH for 3 hours.
  4. Add sugar and optional spices, stirring to combine and break down the apples further.
  5. Continue cooking for one more hour on HIGH, for a total of 4 hours. Stir and mash to your desired consistency, or blend for a smoother texture.
  6. Cool completely and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 7–10 days.

Notes

Tips:
• Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for the best flavor balance.
• Adjust sugar to taste — start with less and add more if needed.
• Add spices like cinnamon, clove, and allspice for a cozy fall twist.
• For a chunkier texture, mash by hand; for smooth apple sauce, blend until creamy.
Storage: Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 10 days, or freeze in portions for up to 3 months.
